How Do I Reformat?

I have Windows XP and it recently crashed and I can't get back into windows. I start it up, and get a list of options, Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking, Safe Mode With Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, and Start Windows Normally. No matter which one I select it goes to the blue ScanDisk screen, then after it finishes it restarts and goes back to the options.

Someone told me the Master Boot Record was messed up and to use the XP disc to fix it. I don't have my XP disc right now and I need to reformat anyway so I am going to reinstall Windows 98 SE.

How would I go about reformatting the hard drive if I can't access windows?

just insert the win98 boot disk > FDISK and delete partions and then format.

just remeber you will lose all data on the drive so if you have some data on it i would not rec doing that.

Also, I have Windows XP right now so a Windows 98 Boot Disk wouldn't work anyway.

you can download a 98se boot disc from bootdisc.com. Of course you'll have to do this on another pc, and remember that you'll have to open the download and copy it to another floppy. Then put it in the floppy drive and boot it up. It doesn't matter if the drive has XP or not. Delete all the partitions and format the drive, and install the os.

Win98se CDROM is bootable. Just select boot from CDROM in the bios. Put in your disc and you are there.
