Cant Install XP because of hard-drive controller. Plz help

ok now here's the deal
i want to have win 98 and win xp running as dual os
after partitioning the hard drive controller i tried installing xp but somewhere along the way it comes up with an error that says that the controller is not compatible with xp.
after running a compability check from the cd found out that my hard drive controller "Highpoint HPT366 Ultra DMA Controller" is in fact not compatible.
my question is : Is there any way that i could install xp while not having to change any hardware?
If not then can someone tell me how to get rid of the prompt on startup asking whether i want to run xp setup or windows 98?

I don't think so. You may need to flash your BIOS to the latest revision for it to work. If not, you will need to buy a newer motherboard for XP support.

You will need to edit the boot.ini file and remove the line with the OS you want to remove..

Example:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
((multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect))

Remove the one in (( and ))

Have you been here? http://www.highpoint-tech.com - I actually don't think that it is that severe - you can use the Win2k drivers - and also is there a regular IDE (Controller) PORT on that motherboard then install WinXP first on the regular IDE CONTROLLER and after that boot to desktop and install the drivers for the Highpoint - I mean the Win2k Drivers - shouldn't be any problem there and then shutdown - move the IDE CABLE to the Hipoint and restart - now actually you should be able to boot proper into WinXP.

as for if you don't want XP anylonger then all you need to do is boot with the Win98 CDROM and then SYS C: enter and there you go - this will kill the WinXP partition and if you had run WinXP on Fat32 then you can save your personal data from within Win98 and then just delete the rest of the XP partition - but this should be the last instance - I think you can easily install that hipoint...
