IE error when I try to print from Web
Hello all, welcome to 2003,
When I try to print anything online, I get one of those "internet explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down..." It's IE-6. I tried to repair, it advised need to do set up again, so I did. Downloaded from site still get the error. I was having all kinds of weird bsods but I traced it down to something in the RAM. I pulled it and tested stick by stick reloaded one at a time and that fixed the prob, but this printer deal continues. Reloaded the drivers too. No luck. Prints ok everywhere else. Thanks as always.

What printer are you using? I had an HP 4P that gave a similar error.

does your printer work when NOT online?
if so, try saving the page you want to print, go offline, and then try to print the page... I've had that message a few times while just surfing...it's a pain and only happened after the upgrade to IE6. |

Hello,
Yes it prints offline, but it used to print even with the IE6 upgrade, this just seemed to start. I can cut and paste or save as to my heart's content, but it is .. as you say .. a pain. Thanks |

It may still be RAM related. Or it could be a slow connection. When printing from the WWW the job has to be downloaded. The printer is hogging the cpu and if the connection is slow (or too slow) IE will cause an error. So Dans solution to DL first and then print is an answer. Another is to use a print server with lots of memory to split the load off the DLing comp. This error is more likely to happen if the page to print is heavy in graphics or a few PDF pages. HTH

sounds like you're doing it right, and the work around just doesn't work. if you were able to print from the internet before, you should be able to. instead of just reinstalling the printer drivers, try removing the printer in device manager. reboot with the printer turned on, and run setup for the printer. you must have a disc for the printer?? |

Try this,
Right Click my computer, properties, performance, graphics and set your hardware acceleration to none. Post back if this helped. |

Hello,
I don't even see the printer in device manager... Tried the hardware acceleration suggestion, no help. Thanks for the idea thoughh. I will try and remove the printer in settings and reinstall it, this is one of those weird ones that makes me crazy. Thanks all. PS I removed printer in settings and let Windows reinstall it and reinstalled drivers, still get the Explorer has encountered a problem, send report or don't send report. My printer works fine elsewhere, ... Thanks. EDIT Hello, I went to windows update site and updated (as I do fairly often) Between the reloading of printer? and update(?) the problem stopped. Now it prints like it should(and used to) Thanks, as usual, for all the troubleshooting ideas, always helps. Last edited by Needtoknow; 01-05-2003 at 11:13 AM. |

n2k-
glad you are up and running. A lot of hardware problems can be fixed by simply reloading but because this involved Internet Explorer the update may be the real fix...hard to say. The important thing is the problem is resolved. Isn't PCMechanic great?? |
