? question about windows xp ?
i have windows xp on my computer at home. i got the upgrade when it first came out. my problem is that my motherboard in my computer quit, or my processor died one or the other. but if i replace my motherboard and processor, i will have to go with a new install of my operating sytem, right? but can i use my same upgrade cd or will i have to buy a new os? i went through all the activation process and everything. but will i need a new os to fix my computer? i dont want to get in trouble trying to fix my box.

Do you have an older qualifying windows operating system? If so you should have no problems, simply supply the installation media of the older operating system when XP install asks you. Re-activation isnt an issue either, usually its done automatically - even if you do have to call MS, you should be up and running in no time.

ok thanks
does it matter how i came across the upgrade cd? i got it from my partner who bought a e-machins that offered a free upgrade to windows xp. he sent off for it but found out it would be a chore to put in when he ran the xp readiness test. so he gave it to me. i went through all the activation and registering procsess and all so should i worry about that? |
