Question Win XP question

I want to know how many PC's I can register my Windows XP Home Edition on, I have it registed on my PC, My brothers PC in the next room, and Im wondering if I can also register WindowsXP on my uncles computer, he lives like 20 miles away from us, and I was wondering if I could still register on his PC so he can also use it, hes on Win ME right now, and it sucks, so is there any rule that says I cant call them up and register on my uncles computer? and if so, how many PC's are allowed to be registered under 1 CD Key?

one key = one computer.

there is no ifs but or mayby about it.
omly one computer will work on that one key, and it will be the last one regestered. the other computers will be disabled as soon as ms detects that the key is no longer valid on that computer.

but wait, when I called up Microsoft I told them I wanted to put windows XP on my brothers PC, they said No problem, and they gave me another CD key, and when I used the XP cd, and asked for the CD key, I just used the one they gave me...so technically shouldnt I be able to just go call them up again, and just tell them I have another PC in my house and would also like to use my XP on that one as well. I dont want to sound like Im cheating them out of anything, cause my uncle rarely uses his PC, and I think it would be waste for him to go pay like 100 bucks for a win XP upgrade, because ME aint bad, but face it, XP is better, so is there no way to just say that his PC is in my house and them just give me another Key?

doing that disabled the key for your computer,
it will soon die.

maybe your not understanding the fact that they still need to be activated, that is where you will discover the point I am trying to tell you.
pay for one key for one computer and one activation.

you will not be able to install it on another computer and have it activated without paying for it.

read the eula licenesseing agreement you agreed to when you opened the box and installed it on your computer

If they did in fact give him a new CD key they may have given him another license. I can't believe they did that. If you were installing it and it said to call MIcrosoft and they gave a 50 digit activation code Bailey is right, in other words you just gave your license away. But if they did in fact give a 25 digit number and didn't ask for your original CD key you may have gained a license. If they did ask for your original key most likely it is no longer valid.

I kinda doubt they did though M$ will almost never give a key out, the only time I have ever heard of it is if they change your Corporate key because you have dramatically changed the number of licenses you have or your company is running on one of the blacklisted keys. But even then those generally aren't given out over the phone.

The XP license is very explicit one computer per license. I have never heard of any exceptions being made for a retail version.
