XP Event System Error ParVdm

For some reason my computer Windows XP Home sometimes goes to the black screen at start up or restart and says the computer didn't start normally last time and gives me the choice to start in safe mode, normally ETC.

I start it normally and everything seems fine?

I checked the Event Viewer and get this error, the source is parvdam and the properties are

"Unable to get device object pointer for port object".

I can't find anyfurther information?

Any ideas.

Oh ya, I also can't seem to get to the Administrator Log in anymore, any suggestions.

Thank you.

Thank you,

The parvdm appears to be running without issue though?

Tried the CTRL-ALT-DEL at welcome, only brings up the Task manager?
