some of you might have read my post yesterday, where I was telling you how I wanted to register my uncles computer with my WinXP CD, and how I did it with my bros and worked, please look a little further down on the forum to see it, if you havnt read it before.
Anyway, I did call Microsoft when I wanted to get my brothers PC using WinXP. And I did, when I called them, they said sure, np, gave me a new 25 digit CD code to put in, and I never had to pay a single red cent, and I have no toubles at all on my PC, I did this well over 6 or 7 months ago, and both my and my borther PC's work fine using win xp, we both get updates, and everything. So Im guessing when I did that it was just a fluke, and If I try and do the same thing on my uncles PC right now, I will either lose my own license, or I will have to pay...is that correct? If it was a fuke before, hehe, damn Im lucky

Microsoft has a stingent license policy, and rightfully so. There are rumors, that I have yet to be seen proven, that once Microsoft detects a pirated or cloned version of an authentic CD Key; your PC will become disabled. The correct thing to do is either buy an OEM or Retail version of XP Professional.

Evidently they gave you an additional license (albeit without documentation). I think you caught the right guy at the right time on the right day. It would never pass software audit but as an individual I think you are more likely to be struck by lightning twenty five times on the same day.
In other words you were given a gift, how legal it is I don't know. But I can say if my M$ rep gave me additional keys in an up and up situation like yours I would use them. Some people make exception that the license agreement doesn;t allow for this but I have had M$ give me additional licenses for my home network on several different occasions. Never for XP but for M$ Office. |

Actually, if you call XP and say that somebody is already in use of the license key, they will proceed to give you another one for no additional charge due to some people stealing the key codes and using them on there XP.
