Question How to Rename Ctrl-D Bookmarks

HI All,

While on vacation, I setup a Win ME box for a relative. I noticed that when I would save a Bookmark, a little window opened so I could Rename the bookmark as desired.

I think that's a cool feature and have been trying to find if it is also availible in Win 98.2 boxes as well (since that's what I run at home).

Anybody know how to turn this on in Win 98.2 ???

Thanks,

TwoRails

--> bookmark this page, you get an option to change the name of the bookmark, its location, ...

Hi, again, grasshopperbe

That's what I was looking for! But, is there a way to make that dialog box appear when I just press Ctrl-D like it does in Win ME??

Thanks!!

How about right click on the bookmark and choose rename.

When I do Ctrl+D, a window opens with a Name Field and a Create in area.

You can change the name in the Name Field.

Are you saying that when you do a Ctrl+D, Nothing happens??
If just arbitrarily adds the link to any old place in favorites?

Hi galaxian ,

Yep, that's exactly what I'm trying to say! It just adds the link all by itself. Sure would like that window to pop up!! I figured that there was place to check / uncheck (or enable / disable) the popup window but I've searched everywhere I can think of but can't find it.

Any ideas??

My only suggestion would be to try a repair on IE.

Add/Remove > Internet Explorer > Repair

I'm running Win98FE with IE5.01SP2 and it works as advertised.

Hi galaxian,

I'm running Win 98.2, IE 6, SP1. Thanks for the tip, but Repair didn't fix the problem. (it musta fixed something 'cause it took forever and required a restart...)

Do you have any folders already created in Favorites?

If not, create one and then try the Ctrl+D.

So, before, you did not have any subfolders in Favorites?

How did you create the folder that you just added?

If you do "Organize Folders" can you move other favorites into it?

Hi galaxian,

1) Yes, I already had sub-directories.

2) I've created sub-dirs two ways: a) within organize folders, and b) with Norton File Manager.

3) Yes.

Does that help? I've even searched the Web and MS Support and found zip...

Running out of ideas!!!

One last one.

What happens if you select Favorites > Add to Favorites in IE?
Or, right mouse > Add to favorites?

Hi galaxian,

Ya, I've run out of ideas...

With Favs > Add to... I DO get that dialog box that I want to pop up with the Ctrl-D key press.

I don't have an option to Add with the right mouse... only toolbar customize options...

Do appreciate your time on this.... If anything else pops into mind, let me know, OK??

Thanks!!

Single click in the middle of the page of the site that you want to save, then right mouse and see if the option appears.

If it does, then this would probably be an easy alternative

As far as I'm concerned, it's Fixed!!

Hi Cheryl,

On mine, Ctrl-B brings up the Organize Favorites dialog... Maybe 'cause I'm running 98.2 ?
