Contact your college retailer -- most colleges and universities have on-campus stores that can provide you with a discount (percentage varies from supplier to supplier) as long as you are a current student.

Microsoft gives schools what they call academic pricing, you may even see a sticker to that effect on the box. All you need to do is go to the bookstore on your campus and that products are there that you can get cheaper cause of the academic pricing deal Microsoft gives to learning institutions.

There is a site or two that claim to offer student prices. I didn't bookmark them as I was not that impressed and could get things just as cheap or cheaper elsewhere, including my student bookstore. You might try searching for academic software to see what you find.

Wanna trade ?? LOL I'd love to be there, and start over again .

Excuse my ignorance, but I take it there is no bookstore for you?

Do you have a student ID?

Hi sam21,

I searched on:

academic software

and here are just a couple of links I found:

http://www.sprysoft.com/shop/
http://www.studentdiscounts.com/store.asp?dc=ovr
http://www.academicsuperstore.com/?s...code=pc10752&/

Since I have not used any of them, obviously I can't give a personal recommendation. Do the proverbial homework and check prices for what you want at least at several places, including non-academic sites. At these sites, you should be able to buy with no problem using a good student ID. (I doubt if they check toooo hard, but they may...)

Also, check sites like www.newegg.com for their software. You can often get surprising deals there.

HTH,

TwoRails

PS: Don't forget, you are living now what is referred to as "the good old days" by others. Enjoy while you can, 'cause it doesn't ever happen again!!

Actually, so did most of the others. Time in life is like pain. The current pain is always the worst, and the longer ago you had pain, the milder it becomes.

sam21, if I may, life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you choose to deal with it. An open mind and a positive attitude will serve you ten-fold in some of the later portions of your life.

I happen to know first hand that collages do offer a substantial discount. My wife finished collage in May of 2002. I got all my operating systems from IU for $5.00 a disk. You do have to have a student ID. Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP all of them for $5.00 per disk. Office 2000 and XP office were $15.00 because they put them on three disks. It is OEM and you get no support from MS, but who needs it with PCMech around. Hell, you get better support here than you would with MS anyway.

Unless you have a sibling in college, it will be tough to get an Student discount. Newegg.com has XP home for around $90 and XP Pro for around $130.

I'm in 10th grade now, and when I think back on 7th and 8th I wish I could go back. Even though I know I hated them with a passion at the time, now that I look back it doesn't seem that bad at all, actually fun.
