windows font changed after upgrade to IE5
Hi, I thought I had posted this question, but after I did a search, I guess I didn't.
My parents finally got a fast internet service. When I checked their computer, they were running IE4.0. So, I upgraded them to IE5.5. But now, fonts on web pages and even in windows turn italic and extremely hard to read. Even does it when installing new programs during the setup procedure. What is even weirder, when I take the mouse and highlight the text, it will correct itself and stay correct. any suggestions?

Hope they got a good antivirus scanner along with the broadband access: several viruses out there can create havoc with the IE and Windows fonts. If they have no antivirus running at all, you can do a quick online scan using TrendMicro's HouseCall, available at their website as a free service (they of course recommend their commercial real-time antivirus scanner, PCcillin). http://www.trendmicro.com
If the scan comes up clean, you could also try going to IE6 with Sevice Pack 1. Post again if none of this helps, and we'll try something else. Best of luck . . . Gary |
