windows xp pro repair install

After doing a repair installation of Win XP Pro my user
account doesn't have the settings it did before. When
logging onto the account I get the message "local profile
can't be found, you'll be logged in using a temporary
profil. Changes made in the profile will not be saved
when logging out". How do I get the user account to keep
personal settings? I don't want to erase the account I
had before the reinstall since this does have the
personal settings saved under "documents and settings",
though these are not used actively.

Many thanks for your help.

All I know to do is create a new account, transfer your saved setting to the appropriate folder and delete the old account. It will probably be easier to do by logging in as Administrater.

Log in as admin.
Look under c:\documents and settings\username
Everything is there.
Create a user (you), copy everything from the old location (your old username) into the new username section.
Restart.
