Windows Messenger

Everytime I open Outlook Express, Windows Messenger pops in my taskbar. I know there is a way to uninstall Windows Messenger by doin' a little hack on a certain file. Anybody out there knows what that file is? I did it once before but I failed to write down the name of the file. I've just reinstalled my Windows XP Pro and that is the reason why. Once a little hack is done on that file, Windows Messenger will appear in the Windows Components which you can add or remove.

Open Outlook, click on tools\options. under the general tab clear the box thats says "automatically log onto MSN messenger service"

I think this is what you are referring to.

Sorry KHT but I've done that and obviously that is not the one I am referring to. Even if you uncheck that option, the icon will still pop up.

Doctorgonzo is right. Thank you, sir. The file in question is "sysoc.inf"

Now I remember. You just have to remove the word "hide," save the changes in the file and uncheck it at the add/remove components.

Due to Outlook Express being an MSN product, everytime you use an MSN product, your MSN Messenger will pop up until you refer to another site, not endorsed by MSN.

Ive tried looking for the file to remove MSN Messenger, but im too chicken to actually do anything about it because this is the first time my computer is actually working.

Go to your program files folder and rename the folder
messenger to messenger_off.

It is not hard at all to get Messenger off your PC. I have done it many, many times with the "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" command, and not once has it screwed anything up. Much better to have it off than to deal with the hassle.
