Windows XP - Online Games extremely laggy... can't connect to server most of the time

Hey Everyone,
I recently installed Windows XP Pro. Everything is working great except for my games that have online play features (Tribes, Half-Life). In Tribes, the game can't even query the master server properly and tells me to verify my internet connection. In Half-Life, I can't log on into any servers.. and when I actually do log on, my ping is too high to play. My internet surfing and downloading are working fine, however. I have a U.S. Robotics 56K PCI Faxmodem and my ISP is Earthlink. I've un-installed the QoS packet scheduler and disabled the internet connection firewall.... but nothing works. Does anyone know a solution to my problem? Thanks in advance .....

Okay,
I've read about this one before.
You go over to PCGamer.com and/or post to MaximumPC.
There have also been a number of patches and fixes at both the game sites and on the magazines' PCG or MaxPC CDs ( if you have a buddy with a subscription your problems may be solved ) you should fine what you need..
HTH

I have run a pci usr hard modem to play all your games, tribes1 and 2, and cs and so on. Never a prob save for typical dialup ping of 250 to 130. I think you may have some network setting misadjusted, or earthlink is just plain crappy. Dunno, but if earthlink is like aol, you are fooched. To get best ping on dialup, you should use the nearest phone co's dialup isp service.
Just some thoughts.
