Where is DirectX ??

I am running xp pro with sp1 and I heard somewhere that direct x 8.1 is included with xp or some versions of directx. How can I locate directx 8.1 in xp? If installed would it be in the add/remove list? I have no directx in add/remove. I ran a search for directx and found an empty folder. Any help please?
Thanks,
doug

Hi Doug;
you have brought up a good point here. I found mine under C:\windows\system32\directx--
Mine is not empty but there is another folder in there called dinput with a bunch of little pictires of gamepads and joysticks and .ini files, but I do not see the old dxdiag icon that used to be found under C:\programfiles\directx\ that was used to bring up the properties of dx and could be used to test with and change settings.

Cool There it is

Found it;
The dxdiag.exe fle to bring up the directX diagnostic utility is in there under C:\windows\system32\dxdiag.exe.
BTW I have XP pro with SP1 also so yours should be the same.

Yep found that even easier just use the run box and type dxdiag in there. Thanks OEM!

Thanks, guys. I ran dxdiag and got it at C:\windows\system 32\ and then it said directx and then in that folder dinput. I opened directx folder and got the program. Under the sys tab I see 8.1 is already onboard. I feel better and thanks again.
