IEEE 1394 Firewire External HDD enclosure
Hi All,
I recently purchased a CompUSA Firewire External Enclosure for HDD and CD-ROM/R/W. I installed a docking bay in the enclosure and inserted an old 2.5GB HDD that had been used in other computers with a drive bay. All worked well. It was recognized in Device Mgr as 2.5 disk drive with drive letter assigned, SBP2 was 1394 compliant drive, and Storage device was IEEE 1394 device. Next, I inserted a WD100GB previously used in drive bays. It was recognized in Device Mgr as 100GB disk drive, but no drive letter was assigned. The SBP2 was again 1394 compliant drive, and Storage device was IEEE 1394 device. Did the same with an 80GB Seagate, same results. I’ve searched updates to WinME, but found no applicable updates. Tried this on two different PCs and a laptop, all with WinME, all with identical results. Any ideas on what to do or where to look? Thanks. |

hi
I don't know much about the device you bought, but I wonder if it is a "hot-swap" type setup? if not, try putting the drive that gets assigned a letter in the device and boot. next try removing it in device manager, and shut down. next put in one of the other drives and reboot... does it now get reassigned a letter?? |
