Hello people, I haven't been around for a while, but I've just got a whole new puter - went out and bought one, as I don't heve a lot of free time at the moment, plus I reckon I'm a bit behind the times.....my old one is 6 yrs old, and even then it was built mainly out of recycled parts...so... I've jumped from a 300MB proc to 2GB, from 2GB HDD to 60 GB, from 60 MB RAM to 512.......all a bit alarming, really, also from early model W98 to XP Pro, which will take a bit of getting used to! Expect frequent calls for the next few weeks/months.....The ol' forum's looking good.

Hey Chris
Congratulations on the new machine! To ease the transition between 98 and XP, you can right click on the Desktop, bring up the properties. then choose "Windows Classic" from the drop down on the first tab Looks just like 2000 then (which is a bit closer to 98, in years anyway...) HTH, Good luck, Jim |

Thanks Jim, I guess I'll get used to it, but when I moved from 3.11 to 98 I used to miss the old File Manager, now I'm missing the old Win explorer....
Cheers, Chris. |

i much prefer the layout of XP, at home i pretty much know by hand distance where all my buttons are, for control panel an my computer etc.. at college all the machines have 98, its really annoying when i need to access a floppy disk and every single time i click on the start button instead of my computer!!

I did the same as raftero for awhile. Then I started using the XP style only. Once I got used to it, I like it a lot better.

Thanks for those ideas.
Now then, does anyone know how to get a game written for W95 (not 95/98) to run in XP? What happens is, I put the CD in and get the first screen alright, but when I hit the 'instal' button I get a messaage that the HDD has no space, which is a long way from the truth. The game in question is Virtual Springfield. Doh! Thanks, Chris. |

You'll need to run it in Compatibilty Mode for Win98/95/ME
To do this, Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Program Compatibility Wizard then choose run from CD and the options above But as a word of warning, this hardly ever works (usually makes it crash faster if anything )Jim |
