Username = Machine name || HELP!
Hi,
In Windows 2000 I could make my username the same as my computer name (Jim) In XP I don't seem to be able to do this (even when fiddling in Computer Management) Any ideas or is it impossible? (I hate having 'Jimbo' as a username...) Thanks,

Hey Jim,
Try creating another name like Jimmy, or try to run on a last name, see if that helps Hope it does

Thanks for that,
It was just nice in Win2K to have my documents and settings folder as Jim, having the computer name as Jim. The computer was Jim ![]() Jim |

Well, in the end I deleted my WinXP partition, resized the W2K partition to fill the drive. Then upgraded 2K to XP (therefore keeping the PC name as Jim and my username as Jim)
So I ask you... why on earth will XP not let you have your username the same as the PC Name? When it is at the moment... Thanks Jim |

Hmm... I did some research on my computer, (actually, just right clicked on My Computer) and it shows that the computer is Registered to Kevin, and the computer name is kevin. (no cap letter in the K) and my login name is Kevin... so maybe you have to make your name jim instead of Jim.
Hope that helps. Kevin |

Thanks
Already tried that when I was in XP Setup, it didn't like that very much either and gave me the message that the usernames couldn't be equal to either "JIM" or "Administrator" Jim |

Open the control panel then open the system icon then choose the computer name tab, near the bottom of the screen press the tab caled change. change the name of the computer then go to the control panel then enter user accounts and change your name to Jim. you may have to reboot the computer before going to user accounts. Hope this helps JIM....

Change the name of the computer? The whole point of this is so both computer name and username are identical
Anyway, as I said I have upgraded from 2000 now and it works fine Jim |
