Hey guys
I have formatted Win 98 in the past, but am now onto formatting WIN ME. When I press "F8" at startup i dont get an option called "command prompt only" like on windows 98. When the computer had loaded, i went to start, run and typed in "command prompt" An MS DOS window appeared and I typed in "format c: /s" but it came back saying Windows does not use this code anymore, or something to that effect. Can somebody please give me the correct code to use, or tell me if I am doing something wrong. Thanks

What task are you performing at the moment? Are you formatting an entire drive to run a clean install of WinME? Or are you formatting only a partition on a system with another OS already installed?
If you are doing a fresh install & wish to format the entire drive as one partition, enter the computer's Bios Setup and set the 1st boot device to CDROM (should be on one of the menus: "Boot Order" or "First Boot Device"...) Then boot from the WinME CD, select start computer with CDrom support. Then use fdisk to delete all current patitions. Then create a single Primary DOS partition and mark it active. Then reboot with the WinME CD again and let the WinME Setup format the drive for you. If this doesn't work, post again and we'll try something else. (I'm a bit rusty on WinME - it's been a few years since I built a system using that one). . . . Gary |
