question about restoring in Window XP Pro

before i have my computer running Window Me. but later i decide to upgarde to Window XP Professional. then i do all the necessary steps to upgrade my systems. but after a while my system is going crazy all the weired things happen. First , whenver i go open a program my comptuer will froze and give me a white screen, and the program whichever i open will have "not responding message". but the strange things is i click on the start button it works, that is strange if the computer froze the start button won't work even i click on it. Also, whenever i choose any program such as AOl or MSN i encounter the same Frozen problem 2. Can anyone tell me why. I try to do a restore in it to an early date. But once i click on the restore button, then it start the process. but once it ask to restart or shut down the computer my computer just stay there and continue for an hour still showing up the Shut down screen. when i push the restart button, the restoration process display a message saying "Restoration Fail and Incomplete" someting like that. What can i do now. how can i boot in safe mode in XP i press F8 but nothing happen, can anyone tell me. Also, isn't there an option in XP Professional which will let u degrade ur Window XP Professional and change back to window Me. Can anyone help me with this

1st try running the 4inone drivers from via. http://www.viaarena.com/

If i were you i'd install win-xp from a fresh formated harddrive.
