Windows ME; I've lost the ability to highlight words and there is no color (blue) when you select an item, works in this program and Word but not in my documents or any filing folders. Also I'm using a PS/2 Microsoft mouse with a scroll wheel, where would I find the proper drivers for this type of mouse? My system don't show a button setup for this type of Mouse. Sounds confusing but it's the only way I can discribe the problem
Athlon 1 G chip, Abit K7 board, 512Meg Ram, Gf2 200/64M Ram video card. |

welcome
Windows should have the drivers for your mouse you are using. Try deleting the mouse in device manager (right click on my computer/properties, click on device manager tab...click on the mouse entry and choose delete), and rebooting. Windows will recognise it and install the drivers for it. See if this works... made any changes lately that might have caused the problem?? |

Everything in working order again?
If not, and if the behavior just started recently, since you are running WinME, you have the option to use WinME's built-in System Restore feature. Look in the Help files if you aren't familiar with it (It's a nice feature, and quite user friendly). Basically you just start the program, tell it that you want to restore the system to a previously saved restore point, and choose a date from before your current trouble started. If you've added hardware or software since then, you may need to reinstall those. (you can, in fact, uninstall them before you run the Restore: it can make things easier). If you haven't installed anything lately, just choose a restore point & see what happens. It does need to be Before your current trouble. Best of luck . . . Gary |

Hi thomsign,
You should be able to set the colour for highlighted text in Windows by changing the "Selected Item" in Appearances. Right-click on empty part of Desktop Select Properties>Appearance>Item Drop-down box>Selected Item On the right is the colour palette and you should be able to change the highlighted text colour to any one you want. Play around with the settings in Appearances and see if that helps. You don't have any special Accessiblity features enabled in Start Menu>Programs>Accessories>Accessibility? |

Thanks Mike
I've tried the appearance in display as my background and text were light blue, that didn't work. Nothong is on in the Accessibility area either. Thanks for your help |

Hi again
one thought: there are settings for how you click on an item in the folder options window. try toggling back and forth between settings to see if it will "free up" this problem.... |

DA I've had blonde moment, I reread Mike's advice again and sure enough I had the color White in Selected Item box. Thanks again to all those who helped. This forum has got me out of trouble before but this one was stupid on my part.

thomsign,
there is no "stupid" here... it's just the classic case of the 18 wheeler stuck under the low clearance bridge: the engineers and mechanics can't decide how to remove it, the 9 year old on his bike suggests: just let the air out of the tires... glad you're up and running.... |
