That computer is at the very bottom rung of the Minimum System Requirements for Windows XP (either edition).
_____
(From Microsoft.com) - Windows XP System Requirements
PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
_____
. . . but that's probably not the cause of the freezes. See if it will boot OK in Safe Mode, and check on the Devices in Device Manager. Look for the usual suspects: red x's or yellow exclamation points.

If that machine doesn't have to run XP, I think Windows 98 2nd Edition would be a lighter load for it to carry. It should be pretty snappy under 98.
. . . Gary

Yes, windows 98 should run a lot better on it. If you do get XP working, it will probably be pretty sluggish. At least it has 256 mb ram. That's a plus.

Can you get in with safe mode? Tap F8 while your computer boots up and choose safe mode. If safe mode doesn't work, try 98.

What filesystem did you go with when you installed XP, FAT32 or NTFS? Remember, Win98se only supports FAT32. HTH

Just boot with the Win98 CD, start the install and you will be given the option to delete the NTFS partition and build your new partitions.

Remember to say Yes to "Do you wish to enable large disk support?" as this installs FAT32.

HTH

It says that while it boots up with the disk in the drive? Did you follow the directions exactly?

"Ensure you are in using Microsoft Win3.1, Win95 and Win98 environment only. Other Win
Operating Systems such as Win ME, Window NT, 2000 and Window XP will not work, try version
2.0."

Version 2.0: http://www.simmtester.com/software_u...y/DocMem20.exe

that *should* work.
