Are you talking about MSN Messenger in Windows XP? If you are, I know, that can be very annoying. I just disable is so it doesn't start with Windows. Go to "Run" then type msconfig. Go to Startup tab and uncheck anything that has msnmsgr or something like that in it. That has worked for me, not sure if there are any other ways.

I think he's talking about ads that pop-up using a certain service that system administrators can send messages to many computers.

Hi, thanx for the reply. No, I'm not talking about MSN. A very kind person in the Internet forum tipped me off to what it is: some kind of commerial advertising program that can enter through one of the ports! He gave me the link to correct it without having to get a firewall- its in the internet section, very interesting to know that all sorts of "crap" like this is constantly trying to get into our computers!! (thank God its only annoying & not malicious). And was win2k related after all because this sort of thing cannot happen on winNT
Thanx anyway! |
