Why is it, when i turn my computer on and look in the control pannel my main hard-drive is c: my other cd drives are d: and e: and my other hard-drive is f:

shouldn't my hard-drives be c: and d: and then my cd drives be e: and f: ???

if not how can i change it so that it is?

It depends upon how the partition is setup as to what drive letter it would get. You can change it by Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management. Right click on the drive and select change drive letter. You couldn't change the CD to f without first changing f to something else so that it is available.

Be warned though, changing drive letters can cause some problems with programs running since the path is different, i.e. f:\programname would become d:\programname.

if you add a hard drive in xp, it just takes the next available drive letter. I believe it doesnt want to mess up the existing drive letters of the cd-rom since some programs installed from the cd-roms look for that particular drive letter when starting. in any case, just right click on my computer and select mange from the list.

from the management program, select the disk management icon
click on one of the cd-rom drives. right click and selct change drive letter. it will warn you about changing letters, but go ahead and change it to what ever you want. to change the drive letter of the hard-disk, you may have to delete the partion and re-create it to set the new drive letter.
