Can't Enable Java

This is probably another simple question, but here goes.

I have a new system pre-loaded with XP Home Edition. In IE6 I keep getting a message telling me that my browser does not support Java. I have checked on numerous websites, and all of them say I need to install SP1. According to I already have it.

I also browsed around and found under the I386 folder several files associated with Java, but they have file extensions like .EX_ and .DL_, indicating they have to be unzipped or something. I don't know how to install them. Or should I? Is Java already there but not enabled or activated?

Oddly enough, quite a few people come to me to help them with their computers. Why do I keep running into problems like this that totally stump me?

Thanks. DKC

Hi StJoDennis,

Download the Jave JRE and it should fix the problem. Hope that helps.

Fixed my own problem. Under Control Panel there is an icon for Java Plug-in, and the Browser tab has a checkbox for Internet Explorer. I checked it, and now Java works!
