How to record sound with microphone?

Do I need to download some software or is there something avalable in windows?

Start | Programs | Accessories | Entertainment | Sound Recorder. That's where it is in Win2K Pro, XP will be similar. I've never used it though so don't ask how.

Pretty basic program. Record - Stop - Rewind, increase speed, volume, that's about it. Nothing to use for anything serious.

www.goldwave.com has a free recorder. I've used it a lot converting casette's to CD. It has MIC in also.
