standby problems

hi,
i just dis a new install of windows98. i could not find my english coppy of SE so i iinstalled the first edition and upgraded.
when my computer goes into standby mode, about half the time he wakes up as he should and the other half of the time he gives a black screen with a great amout of short vertical stripes at the top of the screen all the way across (left to right) they are about 1cm long. the only way out of this is escape and then he has to rrun the entire boot sequence.
i have scanned for virusses.
for now i have disabled the standby function but this is no good either.
anny thoughts are welkom

I don't know the exact fix for your particular situation, but I do know this. Many times the problem is the settings in the BIOS for power settings, which include standby and power saving, somehow conflict with the power settings in windows. In the past I have either disabled power settings for standby in the bios and let windows run the show, or disabled windows settings and let the bios run the show. I have had the most success though with letting windows run the show in that department. Windows settings are found in the control panel. HTH

I would say if things don"t go well, then try disabling power options in windows and enabling them in BIOS and play around with those a bit and see if you can get standby to be a bit more stable.
