amg2412,
I have the same problem. I believe mine started right after I upgraded W2K to SP3 and IE to SP1. It does take a very long time to shut down. Carl |

amg2412,
I found the problem. Have you d/l'd all the M$ security patches and fixes? Look in add/remove programs for Q329170 and Q328310. These patches were made to slow down the shutdown because of the faster cpus and HHDs. Here is a link to the fix: http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.c...PID=616&page=1 I'm going to take a look myself. HTH Carl |

Hey Carl
I removed Q329170 patch and it worked. Thanks for that, my pc shuts down like normal. Just 1 question, is that patch important to have or not?? Thanks for your help amg |

Takes less than a minute for mine to shut down. I rather have a slow shutdown than a fast shutdown with possible currupted data.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you removed the patch, and it isn't doing that anymore, then it was the patch that made the shutdown slow. The patch can be important and may not. All depends on what the patch was made for, and if you really need it. Install a Firewall if you are worried about your security on the net. Disable File-Sharing if you have it enabled. |

The thing that is interesting is that neither patch has to do with fast shutdown or corrupt files.
They are security patches. Depending what one has on their pc, a decision to keep them or remove them is up to them. Weird thing also, is that it affected only one of my twp pcs'. Same O/S on both. One shuts down quickly, the other doesn't and both have all the patches. Carl |
