Explorer causing stack fault

I am working on a home built computer running Win 98 SE that had the W32/Magistr.28672 virus on it. According to F-Prot and AVG the virus has been removed. The problem is windows explorer, every time I try to open "My Computer", "My Documents", or just about anything, I get a "Explorer caused a stack fault in Kernell32.dll at 016f:bff7429f" error. So what I need to know is do you guys think the virus has already done in the bios? Will a format and clean install fix this? Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for the link Sarge, as far as I can tell I have removed the virus. I just can't get the explorer to run without the stack fault. Does anyone know if a clean install will resolve this?

Did you go through the steps suggested by MS? Of course a reinstall would fix unless the virus is residing in your boot record(not likely).

" Using a boot disk, at the A prompt, type "C:" [ENTER]
At the C prompt, type "CD\WINDOWS\COMMAND" [ENTER]
Type "edit c:\windows\win.ini" [ENTER]
Delete any references to the virus, ie. reference to the file which was detected as infected
Boot up Windows
Click on the [Start] button at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Click on [Run] and type "Regedit"
Go to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN"
Delete all references to the virus, ie. reference to the file which was earlier detected as infected
Shut-down and restart your computer."

Yeah Sarge, I did all that late last night,(got the same instructions from the Vbuster site), plus I downloaded some removal tools. I can't find any references to the virus and F-Prot and Avg come up clean. It's not a problem doing a clean install, just wasn't sure if this would completely resolve this. I appreciate the help.
