Unhappy Computer freezes when inactive

My spec is as follows:

1.8ghz p4
2x 40gb harddrive
512mb DDR RAM
BD7 ABIT Motherboard
52x cd rom
16x cd writer
64mb geforce mmx 2 graphics card
Soundblaster
Midiman Delta 66 Soundcard
Dual Boot System
Windows xp
Windows 2000
Ethernet Card connected with 3 other computers over a LAN

For some reason when i leave my computer inactive for about 10-20 minutes in XP my monitor switches off, my harddrive light comes on, the computer freezes and the mointor won't switch on, i have to reboot. I thought this maybe to do with my power settings or screensaver, but i turned all these off, and still the above happened. Also sometimes after i have restarted, it can't find my harddrive. But after a second reboot sorts it out! This whole thing starte only a day or two ago.

I decided to format my drive and install xp fresh. I thought everything as fine, but no it still crashed when inactive. I decided to do a harddrive scan, but at 59% hung for over 2 hours, i assumed it crashed, so rebooted!

Once i had a blue screen of death appear whilst copying files across the network, the error message quoted

"kernel_stack_inpage_ERROR" or "kermal.............. can't quite remember!

Anyone Got any ideas!

Hi ryan_the_razer,

Try disabling the screensaver. Clean out the Windows Temp folderes too.

I got from the MS site.
Your trouble with scan disk may not have been incidental.
