Hi,
XP is new to me but I know it shouldn't do this ie: freeze on a cold boot. I've a new system...P4, 256 RAM, 32Mb ATI Radeon video etc. It worked great with Win2K. Got my hands on WinXP Pro and installed it and that went fine too. Then applied the latest video drivers for XP and SP1. However now I find, more often than not, that when starting the PC from a cold boot, and logging in, the PC will freeze on the desktop for just over a minute. I still have my mouse etc but all my taskbar icons (and I don't too many at the moment) don't appear during this time and the clock (I use T-Clock which shows the seconds) just stops. Approx 1 minute after this all is well except that my volume control icon doesn't appear in the task bar. I've discovered that logging out and back in resolves this issue.........also performing a restart ensures that XP starts up 'properly'. Occasionally XP does start 'properly' from a cold boot but it's just a bit of a pain to have to log out and back in when it doesn't. Has anyone had this issue with XP or something similar? Same system worked like a trooper with Win2K. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Declan (aka fredewest )

You can roll back that video driver with XP and uninstall SP1 if need be.

RAM
you might try getting more ram since that isn't very much ram these days. Just a suggestion, 256 is pretty cheap now-a-days. LaTeR...
