Red face Can't get drivers...

Hello,
well my brother just bought and installed Win2k after seeing how stable it is on my dad's and my computer.
Everything went fine except that I can't find drivers for these following things....
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller
Win2k doesn't have them on their database where I usually get my drivers from....

As far as I know, the mobo is a PCCHIPS M748MR,that's what Belarc reported

I don't see how a modem could affect anything but it's a U.S. Robotics 33.6K Voice INT PnP [Modem]
I don't know if it's working, the computer is on internet through ethernet....

Ok well the whole mess just got deeper, after installing IE6,I restarted and received a stop error...

***STOP 0x000000CA,(Ox00000003,0xfe799e70,0xE130BF88,0x00000001)

Plug an Play detected an error most likey caused by a faulty driver.

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows2000 update you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove new installed hardware or software.Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Refer to your Getting Started manual for more information non troubleshootig Stop Errors.

now the thing is I disabled memory caching and shadowing but Windows freezed in the black start up screen
and I did succesfully booted into Safe Mode and disabled the multimedia controller and PCI simple communications controller, restart and the error still comes

newme, the modem driver is installed fine by windows and does not have a yellow mark, the PCI thingy is not even in the same category in Device Manager,it's all alone in the "Others" category

Turn it on in the BIOS. onboard sound = multimedia controller
pci simple communications = serial ports 3f8 - 2f8 or a on board modem, look in the bios and just below where is says to assign a IRQ for the video there should be an other option to assign a IRQ for a controler.

Heres some drivers. check the onboard sound chip and modem chip and down load the drivers that match the # on the chips in the M748 section.
http://www.pcchips.com.tw/driver/dri...odule_id=1,5,7

Ok here goes...
I downloaded the sound driver,I think the one fot the M748T
I go to add new hard ware wizard and insert the location of where I downloaded the drivers,Windows said it was unable to find the drivers

now I went to add new hardware wizard again and chose "list all blah blah..."
From the brand list I chose "unknown" there is a device named C-Media CM8338,I tried using this but it's not he correct one

ALSO,notice that the drivers I downloaded were for a CMedia CM 8738 NOT CM8338

Is my sound device the CM8338??

Hi,
This is the Sound it's mostly CM8738 Multimedia Audio
Controller
and this PCI Simple Communications Controller is the onboard MODEM From pccrab...

I have the drivers you need for the Sound - garanteed working as for the modem I would need the Wendor Number (you can see this one when you boot the computer after Post initialization..
Hope this helps

If you want the drivers for the modem then just send your email addy to me..

Hpro should get the sound going for you.

The driver you downloaded did not match the # on the sound chip so windows would not install them. sorry i sent you to the wrong site. but i needed the # on the sound chip and modem chip.

Heres the sound card drivers.
http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/companies/222.htm

What are the # for the modem. look on the motherboard modem chip.

The sound chip is more likely an 8330, not an 8338.
The PCI comm device IS your modem.

Ok thanks guys the sound is fixed now....

but the PCI simple communications device is still driver-less
I looked around the PC and saw no onboard modem...

the only modem present is the US robotics one which sits in the ISA slot

And do you have drivers installed for it, and it works?
If so, then the driver is probably for the voice portion of the modem, which isn't really needed...
