When trying to run Scandisk or Defrag under Win ME, they start and restart 10 times and then give a message saying a program is writing to windows, try closing programs etc.
I've checked and no programs are running.
Tried adding more ram just in case (96megs) but same problem.
Anyone have this problem or have any suggestions?
Big buckets of thanks!

I had a problem like this once and found that win amp in my quick launch was creating this problem, also If you are running any virus scan software try disabling it while you run scandisk and defrag.

Fast Find associated with MS Office has to be one of the worst culprits for restarting scandisk and defrag. Personally, I would disable Fast Find permanently.

One solution is to defrag in Safe Mode.

I turned off the e-ware (an e-machine) quick launch and that solved it. Great, thanks for the help!
