Hi there Burti and welcome to the PCM forums!
![]() Have you installed any other software since installing Win XP? Have you made a scan for viruses?

Hi Burti,
What are your system specs? After the 5 minute wait, does Windows XP load okay and can you use it normally? Cricket

Also, if you can boot successfully, go into the control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer and see if any services are failing on startup.

Did you do what Paul Victorey suggested?
We'll need more complete specs than what you've provided. Who are the manufacturers of your parts and what are the model names or numbers of each part. Do you have a NIC (network interface card) installed? What kind of software is loading up with Windows? Antivirus, firewall, etc... Cricket

When you are on a network, that will slow down the boot up process. (That is if you are running on a network.)
Also run MSCONFIG and select "Selective Startup" and only run the minimal programs. Maybe a program that is trying to start up is causing the boot up to run slow or is failing. Do what PaulVictorey said and see what happens. |

If you are running only one OS, run MSCONFIG and go into BOOT.INI and change the delay to 3 seconds. That will save 27 seconds. If you have only one device per IDE channel, go into Device Manager/IDE Controller and make sure Device 0 is set to Auto and Device 1 is set to NONE. Do the same for primary and secondary channels. I had a 40 second delay caused by Windows searching for non-existent drives. Download and run BOOTVIS. After you figure out how to use it you can tell where the delays are coming from.
