Reformatting older pc

I'm trying to reformat an older pc with 98se and install XP. It's got an FIC 1st Mainboard SD11, and I notice some of the bios features on my newer system aren't on the older one or are different, so I'm slightly lost. Can someone explain to me how to clean the disk off and get to the XP install.

you should just be able to change the boot order to cdrom first and just run the cd and it should run through the procudures. if it does not have the option to boot to cd you might have to use the xp boot discs found here

The bios doesn't have a boot option. Does MS not have the bootable floppy deal for XP pro?

I would try and update the BIOS first. Before doing that I would look again to see if there is a CD boot option. A motherboard that new should have it. Usually the only ones I don't see it on nowadays are P100's. Don't ask what I do with those.

I got it taken care of now, thanks for the help. The bios doesn't have a boot from cd option so I had to go the bootable floppy route. I'd never formatted like that, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Welcome to the world of us OLD FOGYS. (yes Sonny, back in the old days we didn't have bootable CDROMs or CDs at all for that matter. Can you imagine...we had the "Command line" and 5 1/4" disks. remember tape drives?

OK I'll quit now!! :-o
