XP SP1 download

Currently downloading Windows XP SP1 from the Windows Update site (Express version)

I have downloaded the 1.9MB thing (the installer). It has now started to download the main stuff (which it says can be no more than 30MB)

However, it has started to download 59500KB

I get disconnected every 2 hours and am on 56k dialup

Will it resume if I get disconnected and do it again?

Thanks

I've had the same problem & this is what I did... If you have access to a high speed internet connection (friend or workplace), you can download the full service pack, burn it to a disk & install on your computer.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...p1/network.asp

When I first tried the regular update, I've gotten disconnected and it had to start all over again. Using the network installation, the download is around 134 MB instead of around 40MB, but then you have the whole thing incase you need to re-format.

You might be able to paste this link http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...sp1_en_x86.exe into a download manager and let it go for a night. Again, much larger download, but you can download it once and take it from computer to computer.

That's what I did to solve this problem. Someone else on this forum may have a simpler solution.

On the cover is a CD that says 100 essential utilities, Patches and drivers, aswell as another CD with mcafee quickclean on it.

Hey Jim,

I downloaded it last night. only 39mb though. For a second I was worried when the two hour cut off happened with 700K left to go, but it resumed where it left off so i was fine.

Cheers Keys, long time no see (not on the net anyway)

Weird thing is, I now have EVERY update available for me on Windows Update (The SP1 is now the only update available for download)

It still wants to download the 60MBs though. Oh well, I'll let it do its thing and reconnect/retry later on

Thanks again
