I just downloaded Media Player 9. When I try to play a .mpeg or .mpg file, the application freezes. It also spikes CPU usage to 100%. Even if you close media player, the wmplayer still stays active in the task manager under "processes", keeping the CPU pegged, until you end process. All other types of media seem to play fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Installed the codecs, still does the same thing. Anything else you can think of?

So far nothing has worked. I am about ready to declare MP9 "junk" and system restore to MP8.
I know there are other people who are having this problem. Why does Microsoft not offer any help or support without an hourly charge?!

Can you play the mpg on any other multimedia program? Try downloading a small freeware program, or see if it opens on any other multimedia program (like powerdvd etc). If not then you obviously dont have the correct codecs installed on your system. would help if you knew what codec was used for the mpg. WMP9 Codecs arent the only ones out there.

I downloaded the divx codecs a while back, and the mp9 ones yesterday. What find strange is that mp8 ran fine, but 9 does not. I have tried it with several different mpeg's with the same result. Is there somewhere that I can get a "bundle" of codecs to see if that fixes it?

I downloaded the file nimolitepack10.exe. Is this the one that I want? I am a bit nervous to open it not knowing anything about it.
