New build, formatting NTFS-installing XP

I have gotten a few components together and have decided I need one more box....(yeah, right; that's the ticket). Anyway I have a full version of WinXP home edition and have a few questions. I will be putting 2 new 40Gb hdd's in the box. First can I use the fdisk program to setup NTFS partitions? Do I need a bootdisk? Or do I just boot with the XP CD in the CD-Rom drive?

You can even leave the 2nd drive unformatted if you want and format it after you install XP. Make sure to select the Quick Format option for NTFS.

FYI, fdisk is not used on NT based systems, only 9x ones and of course, Linux.

So I don't have to do ANYTHING to the hdd before trying to boot? I thought a system wouldn't even POST if the hdds had no recognizable partition on em! Can anybody explain this to me a little?

Hi,

Remember when you buy hdd's, you actually receive them unpartioned (unless you got one with the OS preloaded for some reason). They do not need to have a partition on them for system to be able to POST. You can set your partitions and format your drives all during the XP setup, no more bootdisks needed. HTH
