fqpissed what am I missing??

Hello All,
Strange question here -
Does anyone know why I might be getting multiple illegal operation errors when my pc boots up to desktop?

I just upgraded my mobo, processor/and fan, and memory.

Specs (old):
Win 98SE
Asus A7V133-C
Athlon T-Bird 1.1Ghz - w/Volcano 6 cpu fan
512MB pc133
350w Antec PS
Visiontek 6964 GeForce3 Ti 500 64MB

Specs (new)
Win 98SE
Asus A7V266-E/AA (no RAID )
Athlon XP 2000+ w/new Volcano 6 cpu fam
256 DDR Kingston
350w Antec PS
Visiontek 6964 GeForce3 Ti 500 64MB

(I apologize but I tend to ramble)
The upgrade seemed to go well, no problems with BIOS - cpu detected as 1.66Ghz as it should, all other defaults set according to mobo manual. BIOS is the latest release. Installed new drivers for new VIA chipset, no problems there. VIA drivers are the latest version.
After everything was done I rebooted. Posted fine, recognized everything, started loading desktop and I got Illegal Operation error for Lexmark system tray icon (stack dump error I believe)
Then I was at my desktop, everything seemed to be working fine.
I rebooted again and same problem except this time it the illegal operation error was for Explorer (same stack dump error).
I repeated the reboot/illegal operation error @ desktop process about 15 times and each time I got the same error and it was for a different app. All seemed to be realated to apps that have a system tray icon. Seems like pc is not loading these apps correctly or they are conflicting (I have no IRQ conflicts by the way, nothing funky in Device Manager either)
Opened MSCONFIG and reviewed config.sys and autoexec.bat, both looked fine. Went over complete startup procedure with a fine toothed comb (or so I think) and all looks fine.
Checked Windows support online for known issues and all I could find was a common problem with "stack memory? size". According to Micro$oft, my stack memory may be too small to process all startup items? Sounds fishy to me. All values were the same as what they post as "correct values"
My system tray consists of a Norton SystemWorks icon, task scheduler icon, audio properties icon,
This all happened last night. Unfortunately I have to make a living, so with only 1hour 15min's sleep, I had to go to work. I have a few ideas of things I'd like to try when I get home but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions??

Running on 2 pots of coffee and 3 Corona's for dinner last night, I'm sure there's something simple I missed!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Sounds like a RAM problem. Seen it many times. Possibly a bad stick of memory.

Hey Tireman - thanks!
Could that be true if the memory works fine in a different pc with the same mobo?

Hi PurpleModzForAll,

Since you changed out the motherboard and stuff, you need to do the ENUM trick with Win98 in order to get everything recognized properly.

The ENUM Trick

Make sure the RAM is capable with your motherboard and run a test on it from www.docmemory.com

Lexmark System Tray sounds like a program that you get with the Lexmark Printer. Try disabling Lexkmary System Tray and see if the problem continues.

You should check if this is a software problem. The first thing you can do is boot up into SAFE MODE and see if the problem still occurs. If it does, then it is a hardware problem possibly. If it doesn't occur, then it is a program in the background that is bringing in those errors.

Hope that helps!
