Killing windows by name...? (read on)

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a program out there to kill a window if the window's name is in a list somewhere?

ie. If you didn't want anybody to be able to post a new thread on PC Mech for example, the program sees "PC-Media Tech Forums- Post New Thread" as the window's name and closes it forcefully?

I wouldn't use it for that obviously, but there is this window which pops up every time I use KaZaA about upgrading to the new version (which is crap)

Remember, no comments about not using KaZaA etc, just answers to the question please...

You could also try Kazaa lite, I haven't had any spyware problems with it. Whatever you do, don't get morpheous, had that on my system for less than a hlaf hour and acquired more spam than I had ever seen .

Yeah it already is KaZaA lite, I just don't want to see the upgrade dialog box every time i run it (it's version 1.7.7 I believe)

I hate the new version so don't want to upgrade, but don't want to have to keep telling it that!

Here's something to try

In order to sucessfully remove lock KaZaA out of its AdCache you must first DISABLE simple file sharing in order to display the necessary security tabs.

1. With KaZaA closed navigate to C:\Windows\System32\AdCache
2. Delete all files within 'AdCache', leave the 'Temp' folder but make sure it is empty
3. Right click on the folder 'AdCache' & select properties
4. Navigate to the Security tab
5. In the group or user name box, select administrator, or the appropriate user (anyone who runs kazaa)
6. In the permissions box deny write access
7. Repeat for all necessary users and click 'OK'

Cool Does this solution also work with Yahoo Messenger?

I'm having the same problem with Yahoo messenger....it keeps offering me an upgrade, and I've already "upgraded" it TWICE...thinking maybe it didn't work the first time...lol...and it's STILL offering the upgrade...immediately after I upgraded....

Why the heck is the font tag not closing? It says it is, until I preview...

Thanks!
Sarah

Just to let you know, Sarahsurfer, most people on the forum don't bother using fonts...

(especially not big, bold and red )

Anyway, I wouldn't bother with the upgrade, one, it's rubbish. Two, it doesn't seem to work with anybody. You're best to get the full file, if you really want it and do a clean install

Thanks

Jim

I use a little prog called "Push the Freakin' Button".
It will promptly push any button on your desktop, as soon as it shows up. I have a huge list of buttons in it, and I figure I've increased my mouse life by at least 33%.

Here's a very simple way to get rid of ads for those that dont have security permissions etc (like XP Home) - to follow up on what Ezeebob said; it works for nearly everything .. be it ICQ or even some versions of MSN. Delete every ad directory, and create a zero file with the same name; delete every history file and create a directory by the same name.
