Exclamation Win XP home with no backup utility

Well, here I go again with my Compaq computer and all of the pre-installed software that comes with it.
I would like to backup some data, but of course the XP home edition does not have that automatically installed. Since I don't have an XP CD to install this feature (only a restore disc!), some advice would be welcome.

Should I:
~Upgrade to XP pro
~Buy another software program to do backups
~Rant to Compaq/HP that I really need this utility, so send me a disc (fat chance)

I do have a CD burner that came with a limited version of Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, that has a data CD option. Would this be sufficient for now? It doesn't have any type of scheduling options, so I would only use it until I find a better solution.

Thanks for any help,
Kathy

If it is just for copying work files then the CDEW is all you need. With XP you have a system Restore feature that if you manually update it when you make changes is pretty good for recovery, but it is not 100% sure. The beat and cheapest is a Program such as Drive Image which will allow you to make an Image of the hard Drive to a CD-R (RW). This will give you basically an updated and custom restore disk set.

Thanks, morriswindgate. I do use the restore feature, but I need a way to backup on CD, in case of a major crash. I appreciate your response.

Windows XP lets you copy files to CD.
All you need do is right click on the file, choose Send To and select your burner from the menu.
It's a built in feature of XP.
Reportedly it isn't that great for music but works fine for data.
HTH

It's there but it's treated like copying to a floopy. If you're looking for the program specifically you won't find it as such.
