Pissed XP Home edition problems!

I am having some difficulties with a friends comp. she has a Refurbished Dell 2300, Pent 4, 512 MB Ram, and XP Home.

I try setting it up to remember say 'classic view' ect. and at each reboot it forgets these settings.

Second problem, she runs Aol (Yuck) version 8.0 after it copies the files to the selected dir. it then exits saying something like:
we are sorry you chose not to install Aol 8.0.....
Problem is I want to install it. Aol doesn't get added to the add/remove programs tab either.

P.S. the first time it stopped the install saying I needed to be the administrator. Problem is, I was logged in as the default user called Owner but with Admin Priveliges( the only admin on the PC).

Anyone here know what the heck is going on?

P.S. 2
I just got off the phone with Dell Tech Support they said that the home edition won't remember the settings for 'classic view' ect. So I guess that solves that problem.

I called AOL tech support and they suggested shutting down processes to the bare minimum and then trying to install aol. My problem is I cannot locate the 'administative tools' anywhere. Anyone point me in the right direction. My brain is now mush I've been working on here computer for 11 hours. I am at a complete loss...

Thanks in advance for you input.

Cool

I've never messed with it as I'm the only user but is it under Control Panel/User Accounts?

I have xp home, it's under control panel. If you get the XP view, on the upper left should be a link to switch to classic view. Then you'll see the Administrative Tools icon.

I think Tech Support just gave you some bull *&%& answer so they wouldnt have to deal with the real problem.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone for your replies. So I guess the tech. support at Dell isn't quite what I expected. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to figure it out.
Anyway, I finally got AOL 8.0 loaded by booting into safe mode first. I seems to run fine now.
It seems though that the install of XP Home isn't working correctly so maybe I should try to install 1 more time. Although, I don't see it making any difference.

Thanks again for all your suggestions!
