Question Uninstall Windows ??

Hi,

I’m looking for some help on how to uninstall Windows ME. My dad, he’s 85, had some kind of problem with his old PC. I don’t know what happened. He said the recovery disks did not help so he loaded Windows ME and now it is very very slow. It’s a Compaq Presario 4786. I think it originally came with Windows 95 but I’m not sure. I bought Windows 98 second edition and would like to install it so dad can get back to surfing the web. If you haven’t guessed yet I’m not computer savvy. But I found this site and have been searching these forums for a few days. I think I want to do a “clean install” of Win 98 but I’m not sure how to do it. I have the original recovery disks containing the drivers and a new Win 98 ready to install. I know it’s an old machine and not every exciting but any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok first thing you want to do is to make a system boot disk. once you do that put the disk in a boot the computer from the floppy. Go into DOS mode. and type format C:

then it will ask you if you really want to do this or something like that and push Y.

then once it formats the HDD. go into the BIOS and change the boot order to boot from CD. then Insert your Windows CD into the cdrom and reboot your computer. then follow the windows instructions.

remeber you will lose all your information so backup your files first.

HTH
