svchost.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe

can someone plse tell me what this is and does. I have looked around for an answer but have not found anything I understand.

I have been playing around with my firewall again, and that is where I am seeing it.
FYI== Tiny Personal Firewall 4 is really nice.
