XP pro corrupted display driver

Well, the power went out here, and my laptop got shut off when it did. I tried to restart, and the process just hangs at the point where it shows the black screen with the windows xp logo and an animated bar at the bottom. The animated bar never stops moving though. I have tried restarting in safe mode and as it displays the drivers it is loading it hangs on the one named agp440.sys (im guessing this is a video driver). I have tried using the last working configuration to no avail. I still get the same hangup on the same black screen. Is there any way I will be able to fix this problem without losing data. A repair from the xp disk will make me lose data, correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A repair shouldn't make you lose any data. But that's why backups are such a good idea.
