Angry Fire No sound in Players!

I am not getting any sound from my media players: Windows Media Player 6.4 and Quicktime. I can play the file, but there is no sound. I checked the volume on both the players and the system. I have another player than can play only midi, which works, and the system startup music is audible. What the heck is going on?

do you have a speaker icon is your systray?
if so, try 2x clicking it to see if the volume is turned up there (or muted)...
if not in control panel open multimedia/audio and check the box for "show volume control on taskbar"
