You made enough system changes to cause a reactivation.

Microsoft think you have a copy that belong to someone else. When you Registered it took stock of your system specs and enough changes have taken place to call for a reactivation....

Its Microsofts way of keeping piracy down or so they think so....

None of the hardware you changed comes under the criterion to reactivate. Even still you haven't changed enough anyway. The router and software don't count at all. My guess would be that the file that contains your activation code is corrupt or possibly you have added SP1 lately?

You can activate using your broadband connection or by telephone. It XP thinks it's not activated you have thirty days to activate it. If you don't it will not let you logon until you do so by telephone. So really your only option is too activate it.

I re activated no problem with the automated call system, I did install the SP1, but that was also some time back. I did not think the software would have anything to do with it. As to the hardware, I did not think it was enough especially since the router is not "in" the PC.

I was tired and only tried a couple of programs last night, but everything seems ok, just really wierd and I wanted to throw this out to the forum.

As always you all are great.

Thanks
