Lost sound

After installing an app and rebooting I got a blue screen. Before I could read the screen the machine rebooted itself. I had trouble getting into Safe Mode but finally did and removed the app. The computer works fine except no sound. No system sound no CD nothing. I have checked the obvious muted sound etc. I tried reinstalling the drivers deleting the card in Device Manager etc. I would like to avoid physically removing the card if possible. Can anyone help? I will list the system specs below.

I'm sorry other than swapping in a new sound card I don't know what you can do, I don't see why it would have blown up just after installing some software anyway

Have you tried actually Removing it from Device Manager, then rebooting and letting it detect it again?

For the future, you can right click on My Computer, Properties, and there is an option on one of the tabs to not restart automatically when an error occurs (which is what happened to you before)

Sorry I'm not at my Win2K/XP PC right now so am not sure which tab it's under

Remove the sound card from the PCI slot and put it into another slot and install the latest drivers. .

FatboyJim, the option that you are talking about is under ADVANCED and then "Startup and Recovery" in Device manager.

Weird problem. Never seen this happen before. I will check back tomorrow on this problem.
