Angry Fire more xp problems

hi,

hope someone can help me out....

i have an epox 8k7a, fujitsu 20 hd, radeon 64 ddr vivo, hercules gamesmuse dvd 5.1, cable internet, win xp pro, lite on burner

ok, i have done what i think is all.... for the past 2-3 weeks. i have low level formated and reinstalled more times than i care to mention.

i have run with no new drivers and with all updated drivers and problems still arise. i have run this computer for about 1.2 years without problems like these. it seemed to start about a week or so after installations of the new sound card (hercules).

it locks up in device manager without anything installed, i mean directly after installation, trying to check what was installed. when i hit the little + sign beside items it would freeze.

have tried with onboard sound and another card and problem doesnt seem to change no matter which i use, so have eliminated the sound being the prob. have tried diff ram and minimal ram, have flashed bios. i am presently running of a lowlevel format about 2 days ago. it all seemed ok for about half a day and then it started to lock up in the main game i play which is mechwarrior 4 mercenaries. it would start just as i would about to lauch the mission and i would have a complete freeze, nothing could break it except a hard reboot.

i was even typing out this message once before and it froze when i was scrolling with my mouse wheel and on the scroll down arrow in the window.

some events that have happend are:

the device\device\cdrom0 has had a bad block,
The COM+ event system failed to fire the connectionmade method on subscription.......(to many different # and events to list)

please help me out, i have heard that it could be my hd because they have been pretty crappy in the past couple of years, but would that cause these probs??? scan disk finds nothing

HELP!!!!!

I would do two things.
Get the drive diagnostic software from the manufacturer's website and run it.
I would also try it with a different video card.
Have you checked settings in BIOS?
Is it overclocked, maybe even by accident?
Is it overheating?

i have tried a diff agp card and same prob, it did work with a pci card previously, but not since last install (i should try it again to verify that its the agp slot), will do tonight. if familiar with epox board it has an led display and when it proper it says FF. it has posted other # which make no sense to me like setup virus protection (boot sector protection) functionality according to setup settings, and another code not even listed in the manual....

have tried the hd diagnostics and found no prob, its not overclocked, not even by accident and no its not over heating cover is off heat sink is cool, and case fan is running as is the fan on the vid card and additional one on the mb......

i`m personally not convinced it`s a HD prob but have you checked the site for a diag utility?.

have you updated your CD-ROM drivers and firmware. particularly firmware.

try using *PROVEN* ribbon cables for your HD\CD-ROM. a bad ribbon cable can make a PC look sick\dead.

also, try uninstalling any software that you don`t need for now and install gradually until you might find a conflict.

one last thought, your CD isn`t slaved to your HD is it?

Have you disabled any virus protection in BIOS?
That'll give you a fail every time, because the MBR cannot be written properly.
