Rundll errors at ME startup.

Everytime Windows ME boots up I get the error message:

Rundll has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL
Rundll will now close

The system has no sound through the onboard sound card. It appears that the OS is not detecting the onboard sound card. I also cannot run any advanced games that use EAX (Ghost Recon). What do I need to do for a trouble free startup? Please help.

Hi RayZer

If this trouble just started, and everything worked fine before, you can try the System Restore feature of WinME - just pick a restore point from before the trouble started. You may have to reinstall some programs that have been added after that point.

Or you can try adding the drivers=mmsystem.dll line to the [boot] sections of your system.ini file. This fix has a nice explanation over at http://www.windows-help.net/windowsMe/tip-0100.html

If you are getting no sound at all: another route you can try is to check in the Bios Setup for that computer to make sure that the onboard sound isn't disabled, then uninstall all sound software, then remove the sound devices from Device Manager, then reboot and reinstall the sound drivers.

To uninstall sound software visit Start/Settings/Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs

To get to Device Manager go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System . . . the 2nd tab is Device Manager
____
one of these should get you going again. If you have any trouble, or need to locate drivers, let us know
. . . Gary
