Question want to erase a program from add/remove list

i have a laptop with old norton corporate anti virus on it.
couldn't remove to install a different AV prog cause it was password protected.
deleted the program manually and searched the bootup errors in the registry and deleted them.

problem is my new AV program sees norton and aborts.
the only place i see it left is in add/remove prog.

can i explore to the folder storing the program info so i can try to delete this hopefully last glitch holding me back from my favorite AV program.

i will do a format and reinstall if need be, but there should be a way to get this job done???

This site should help make sure you got it all Symantec . If you just need a program that can remove it from the Add/Remove, jv16 Power tools , will do it. HTH

EXCELLENT ADVICE!!!

i went to the symantic site and deleted the registry entrys that were hidden. my mcafee installed without a hitch.

also, i didn't know that jv-16 could remove add/remove entrys.

things are working well right now. thankx, ray

In case you ever need that key in the Registry to remove a program from the Add/Remove Programs applet's list, here it is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

You simply delete the values for the software that either has been manually deleted, or had problems with it's uninstaller. Of course, the usual cautions about making a backup first are recommended.

Glad you got it fixed - and so quickly, too.
